I created this painting after a trip to Padre Island. In the distance you can see the Texas coast. The section of water between Padre Island and the coast is Laguna Madre. Although difficult to imagine, you can actually wade this stretch of water from one side to the other.

The island is inhabited by a variety of shore birds, including Laughing Gulls. This gull was interested in what I was doing and I'm sure it was hoping I would toss a treat toward the beach.
